Indian Plastic Industry expanding its footprints in International Market by tapping the Middle East and African countries and expecting about 20 per cent growth in shipment of plastic products
“There is huge potential in the African countries where a lot of industrial growth is taking place. In 2011, India exported about USD 7.1 billion plastic products and USD 150 million machinery accounting for 2.3 per cent of the total exports to countries like US, China, European Union, the Middle East and Africa.
With rising demand for high quality plastic products across the globe, Gujarat’s plastics exports are expected to touch the Rs. 45 billion mark by end 2015. Currently, Gujarat’s plastics exports stand healthy at Rs. 35 billion.
Since the last five years, the state’s plastics industry has significantly maintained exports growth of 20 % and this positive trend is expected to continue for coming years also. The plastics industry in Gujarat is constantly witnessing a healthy demand from countries like US where per capita consumption of plastics is 109 kg. Also, Europe and Latin America play a key role in plastics demand. Gujarat is strongly expected to register a 20% exports growth in coming years too.
Gujarat, the polymer state of India, is a host to nearly 10,000 plastics processing units with a production capacity of 5 million tons per annum. According to Gujarat State Plastics Manufacturers’ Association (GSPMA), the state’s plastics production is set to double by end 2015.
Considered as the polymer state of India, this is where 70% of plastic raw materials being produced, World class machinery is also available here. Moreover, technical education required is also available. State is also marching ahead for becoming automobile hub that will open new avenues for the plastic industry.
The countries which were importing more plastics from India included China, UAE, U.S., U.K., Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam and many countries in South America.
To further enhance market share, the plastic industry is participating in the largest trade show – INDIA PLAST 2015 in Gujarat.
INDIA PLAST -2015, one of the largest canvases for the plastic industry player to put their brand on, is aiming to create development friendly environment for the plastic industry and thereby to boost export of the plastic industry.
