Scientific tests have demonstrated that those people who display mirrors around their house are more likely to be more confident and even do better in life. As well as helping to increase your self-confidence, mirrors help you with interior decorating issues, particularly if you don’t have much space. Interior decorators will advise you to use […]
Interior decorators will advise you to use a free standing mirror if you want to give the effect of additional room or space. If you have a room that isn’t as spacious as you might like it to be and you are not enamoured at the idea of removing walls or altering the entire furnishings with something that might make the area seem wider, some floor-to-ceiling mirrors might very well have the desired effect. By reflecting the whole room, mirrors will give the effect that there is double the room available.
But bear in mind, you can’t just go hanging mirrors anywhere. Mirrors cannot help if large pieces of furniture are blocking them, for instance. Choose a wall that will give people fewer chances to see the reflections because this would lessen the effect of space you are trying to produce – across from some fine oak bookcases might be an excellent location.
Of course, mirrors come built in to some items of furniture in certain rooms – vanity sinks, for example, will have a mirror to add to the sense of space.
To create the best illusion of extra space, study how the room is organized and find those parts of it that are not likely to be opposite where people sit. Don’t forget – the mirrors need not cover the entire surface of the wall, just the entire height. If you do it right, your floor to ceiling mirrors will give the illusion that there are passages into different rooms, creating the effect of extra space.
